Shadow a Student Nurse Program

10.jpg

This program will give area high school students the opportunity to spend a day accompanying Pottsville Hospital School of Nursing students as they practice their clinical skills and care for clients in the hospital and/or laboratory setting.

This program has been established to allow high school students to experience realistic, every day professional nursing and professional nursing education.

Students will be shadowing/observing professional nurses, educators, and School of Nursing students as they carry out patient-care activities.

High school students can participate if:

  • They are mature Senior or Junior (in the Spring of Junior year only) students with an interest in a professional nursing career.
  • They are willing to dress and act appropriately for a formal clinical setting.
  • They have parental permission if they are under 18 years of age.
  • They are willing to sign a confidentiality statement protecting the privacy of any client they happen to have contact with.
  • They have the permission of their home school to participate.

Students must pre-register for the program. Students can register by having their Guidance Department call the School of Nursing at least one week prior to their desired clinical day. No more than two students can participate on any given day.

Registered students will receive an informational packet before participation.

Students must bring all required signed statements and waivers with them on the day they attend.

Proper Hospital and School of Nursing identification passes must be assigned to the student prior to their clinical experience.
