Admissions Information: Admissions Process
The Pottsville Hospital School of Nursing makes sincere efforts to accommodate applicants/students with disabilities. Any applicant with a
documented disability may request appropriate and reasonable accommodations by notifying the School of Nursing in writing at the time of
acceptance to the program.

A nursing student must:
- Be able to speak and understand the English language and communicate in an understandable manner.
- Be able to read and write the English language in an understandable manner.
- Be able to move, walk, sit, stand, intermittently and for extended periods, in the clinical setting.
- Be able to bend, stretch, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to
function adequately in order to assure that the program requirements can be met.
- Be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
- Be able to cope with mental and emotional stress.
- Fill out and submit Application
- Possess or be able to learn the manual dexterity required to carry out the functions necessary to meet the objectives of the program.
- Complete the required essay and attach it to the application
form. (Instructions for essay are located on the 3rd page of
the application form).
- Attach a $25 check or money order (Application Fee) to
the application. (Make the check payable to "The Pottsville
Hospital School of Nursing".) Application fee will be
waived if you are an employee of the Pottsville Hospital
and Warne Clinic or an immediate family member of an
employee (mother, father, son, daughter, spouse), or
if you are entitled to a hardship waiver according to
the SAT Program Fee Waiver Service. If you are claiming
an employee fee waiver or a hardship waiver, please check
the appropriate box on the application.
- Have your high school send an official high school transcript
to us. If you took a Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or
an American College Testing (ACT Test) while in high school,
please request that your scores also be included on your
transcripts. (A high school transcript is an essential
part of your application file even if you didn't graduate
and later received a General Educational Development (GED)
Diploma). Applicants who attended their secondary education
in a country other than the USA, must submit transcripts
that have been translated by a credential evaluation service
such as WES (World Education Serice). If needed, contact
www.wes.org.
- If you received a GED, please send us a copy of your
certificate along with your GED scores.
- An official transcript must be submitted from each post
secondary school that you have attended (colleges,
universities, nursing schools, trade schools, etc.)
- Give each of the two Reference forms, to two individuals
who are able to objectively evaluate your performance and
potential. References should be completed by past or current
. . . teachers, educators, employers, supervisors, medical
professionals, clergy, coaches, etc. Reference forms should
be mailed to us directly from the evaluator. Please give
each evaluator a mailing envelope with our proper address
and postage affixed to it.
- Non-U.S. Citizens must show original permanent resident
card I-551 for photocopying. They must also obtain and
complete A.G. 639 form from the Bureau of Homeland
Security.
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required
for applicants whose first language is not English. For
information on taking the TOEFL, contact www.toefl.org.
- A PA and/or FBI Criminal Record Check is required of
applicants who check "Yes" on the crime conviction question
on the application.

Applications are reviewed monthly. Your application will
not be reviewed until all of the application materials
(including transcripts and references) are received. If you
do not receive notification within a month, please call to
check on the status of your application. Telephone our

Admission to The Pottsville Hospital School of Nursing is
