About Us
The Pottsville Hospital School of Nursing is a full time
3 year non-resident RN diploma nursing program. The
educational program includes two years (six semesters)
of nursing courses and one year (two semesters) of prerequisite
university courses. The nursing course component builds
on a base of 30 credits from Penn State University Schuylkill
Campus. Required courses completed after at other colleges
and universities will also be considered for transfer.
The School of Nursing was established in 1895 with the
incorporation of the Pottsville Hospital which later became
the Pottsville Hospital and Warne Clinic. The school has
graduated well over 2000 graduates and continues to be
the primary educator of registered nurses for Schuylkill
and surrounding counties.
Located in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, a small city in rural
Schuylkill County, the school is part of the Hospital Campus,
a complex of several buildings where comprehensive health
care services are provided to the surrounding community.
These services afford the student the opportunity to learn
and gain experience in varied patient care settings such
as medical-surgical, perioperative, maternal-child, both
inpatient and outpatient adult and emergency care, home
health and a variety of clinics and ancillary health services.
With a unique combination of extensive classroom learning
and clinical experience, the Pottsville Hospital School
of Nursing graduate is prepared to meet the challenges
of present & future patient care.
The Pottsville Hospital School of Nursing
is approved by the Pennsylvania State
Board of Nursing and accredited by
the National League for Nursing
Accrediting Commission. The School
is a member of the National League for
Nursing, the Hospital and Healthsystem
Association of Pennsylvania, and the
National Coalition of Hospital Associated
Schools and Colleges of Nursing.
The “Professional Nursing
Law” of
Pennsylvania (No. 1985-109, Section 6)
specifies that applicants for licensure to
practice nursing may be denied a license
or the privilege of sitting for the licensing
examination if they have been convicted of
or pleaded “no contest” to a felony or other
crime. Personal concerns regarding this

Never before have there been so many exciting opportunities in the Nursing profession. You can now take the step to become a Registered Nurse at the
Pottsville Hospital School of Nursing. The School of Nursing is located at Washington and Jackson Streets. It is a commuter school and houses
classrooms, laboratories, a library, and faculty and administrative offices. All classrooms are equipped for use of audio-visual teaching equipment.
In addition, the Computer and Learning Resource Centers offer computer-assisted instruction and a variety of interactive video programs.
The Pottsville Hospital and Warne Clinic, located across the street from the School, provides students with clinical
experiences which complement classroom instruction. There are also additional off-campus clinical sites and agencies used
to further expand experience and learning.
While some off-campus experiences are located within walking distance of the School, others will require access to a car.
Car pooling is encouraged whenever possible; however, each student is responsible for arranging their own transportation to off-campus clinical sites.
The student body consists of individuals, male and female, of varied ages, educational backgrounds, and life experiences.
In addition to learning, students often establish friendships that last a life time.
